       It occurred to me that there were two groups of people that came to Mastodon in November. The first thought Twitter was literally going to shut down and needed virtual methodone for their social media addiction. The second were users dissatisfied with what Twitter had become and jumped at an alternative. I believe it's the second group that have stuck around.

       @mike ok but what kind of addiction did Twitter serve vs what did they find with Mastodon? Or how are other alternatives like Facebook different?Twitter was the public square but Mastodon was more for specialized communities. I think a lot of the stress we're seeing is about what different people want the fedi to be. being decentralized, it kinda has to be everything, but perhaps separated in some way that works for people and is understandable. FB is for friends and family.

       @MaggieCi @mike agreed. much better overall on Mastodonis a small segment of nasty totalitarian pile-on types, haha, but 95% of folks here are way better than the typical Twitter account. in my own/anecdotal experience so far...
