the idea that people only hate the rich out of jealousy is a lie... propagated by the rich.people don't hate you because you have money. they hate you because you are bullshit scumbags who apparently don't have to follow the law and probably that time you hired a PMC to bomb african villages so you could get cheap water for the beverages you sell or something.there's been studies done on it. americans love rich people who just made a cool product and sold it without any bullshit involved.

I think it’s super complex. In the 2003 documentary The Corporation, some tree huggers protested some Shell board member at his house in the UK .. he and his wife actually invite them in and have a nice discussion. As far as rich people wasting money, I kinda like Matt Walsh’s hot take: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2QeMl9rY5gPeople love Elon Musk for the based things he’s doing, ignoring the fact that he’s one of the largest defense contractors in the world (via SpaceX), all his companies are heavily subsidized by governments (US, China for Tesla; various for SpaceX satellites). He has ties to the World Economic Forum. In the 90s/2000s it was shitty how Bill Gates crushed all his opposition, but the Linux and open source movement showed there were things he couldn’t compete against. macOS has gained market, but also shows things typically narrow to 2~3 competitors in all markets. I think it’s kinda the natural output. When it comes to the FTC/SEC, it’s rare they do much useful today; preventing only the largest and flagrant violations of anti-competition/anti-trust (nVidia trying to buy ARM, or AB InBev forcing to sell the Modelo brand to someone else in the US).Just in general, if you hate a rich person for being rich, stop buying from them. I literally bought nothing from Walmart from 2010 ~ 2022. I stopped buying from Amazon in 2016. People complain, but no one is going to take collective action. That requires advertising and that’s expensive. The Bud Light/Target/Dodgers thing is really interesting in this regards, even though long term, Target and AB InBev will probable be fine...and I think that gets to the complex part. People naturally order into hierarchies. You’re always going to get down to 2~4 providers for any given thing. People who take the biggest risks are going to be the ones who make the biggest gains, and not everyone has the will and drive to make those risks (I don’t). So I disagree with you; there is a certain amount of envy there, but should you really envy the psycho? .. the world is going to breed them anyway … either through selection from other elites or through the lucky few risk takers that can create a shared vision and make widgets everyone else wants …I dunno … I use to earn next to nothing and now I earn a lot relatively (a good home, a good vehicle, on track for retirement), but not an insane amount (12 vehicles with a Corvette). I’m happy where I’m at, and I don’t have a strong drive. I wish everyone who didn’t could make more than enough to be okay and live decently.oh god this is a long fucking essay. Sorry Quinn! Don’t hate me :blobfoxinnocent:

@djsumdog i don't really hate rich people just for having money. and psych studies i've read say that's normal. this narrative that disliking the rich (one freemo cited recently) is because of jealousy is sort of a meme propagated by people who have money.it's like when some billionaire says its poor people's fault they are poor, while he signs the cheque to have the pinkertons drive over to shoot the union rep.

@djsumdog there are certainly people with money who haven't done questionable things or been bailed out of cases by mysterious bongo judges that would have fucked anyone else. as far as i can tell, nobody really minds those people. except maybe the commies.

The Bud Light/Target/Dodgers thing is really interesting in this regards, even though long term, Target and AB InBev will probable be fine.AB InBev will be fine, but I don’t think the point is necessarily to make them go bankrupt, so much as teach them the lesson that pandering to woke nonsense is unprofitable. And really, they should learn that pandering in general is a poor use of investor funds. They’re a beer company. Who needs to believe their beer company has the most ethical political/social beliefs unrelated to, y’know, making and selling shitty beer?If the public can teach big companies that pandering, especially woke pandering (but to be fair, any pandering is bad), risks them getting Bud Light’d, then that’s mission accomplished.

@Marvin @djsumdog its kind of like you decide to sell vegetables, and the state takes 30% and gives it to Dark Costco to provide vegetables for the people in charge of bombing $country. you can't not give your competitor money even if you were to never buy the product.this is the kind of thing that is really just indefensible, but its really convenient if you can gaslight people in to thinking they just need to i dunnonot be jealous or something:blobcatdunno:

Well with specifics to Woke trends in companies, that has a lot to do with ESG scores and "stake holder" economies (where you are beholden to the nebulous term "stake holder" instead of "share holder" .. and a steak holder might not even own any of a company). The leaders of these companies are part of a cult that believes they need to do social good, and that builds some other type of social capital (and I think they're also less concerned about money because they believe it will all go away anyway because their insane Communists who want to push some type of new social credit based digital currency where the world is better when you're given coin that can only be spent on food and other coin that can only be spent on entertainment; forcing populations to make "good" decisions by the way they're paid) ... it's coming and needs to be fought against.

Yea and I agree. That's all true. Last year I stopped buying from Target because they started selling chest binders to teenagers. Wal-Mart teaches anti-white racism to managers, but I went back to them because there was literally no one to buy from unless I wanted to spend an extra $20~$40 for some goods. I wrote this whole thing on voting with your money a while back:https://battlepenguin.com/politics/you-cant-vote-with-your-dollar/but it ends with a variation of Mother Teressa's "do it anyway" ... not sure if it's the right attitude, but it's all I can do.

Yep yep. Exactly. genau. Whitney Webb talked a lot about Aladdin in her Unlimited Hangout podcast, as well as things like Palantir (tracking and analysis software sold to the intelligence agencies of many world governments to monitor their citizens)https://wikispooks.com/wiki/Palantir_TechnologiesPalantir is a Peter Thiel company; who is another one of these shady actors: one of the original PayPal mafia people who is currently backing companies like Rumble. So even these newer “free speech” platforms are still having money pumped in by completely untrustworthy people.

It does though. Wrapping skin that tight could increase the risk of breast cancer. There have been cases of rib fracture. They seem very inappropriate to push on teenagers, and there's not enough research for their long term health effects.

@djsumdog @icedquinn @Marvin This is about the only study on it: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/13691058.2016.1191675It’s paywalled, but the results are summarised here: https://www.bayswatersupport.org.uk/breast-binding-self-harm-or-gender-care/Over half of the respondents to the survey stated that they bind on a daily basis, for an average of 10 hours a day, and most used a commercially available binder, followed by sports bras. Free text responses to methods of binding included belts, girdles and fabric, as well as plastic wrap (cling film). Over 97% reported at least one side effect of binding, with pain being the most common. Just over 50% reported problems with respiratory symptoms and more than ¾ reported skin issues such as swelling and itching, infection and even scarring. Here is the reported prevalence of each of the 28 recorded health outcomes: (It also, ironically, makes subsequent elective mastectomies harder and less successful cosmetically.)

It's really not just the personal views of the CEOs and board members. It's specifically ESG money. If the ESG money dries up, the board forces the CEOs to do their jobs.ESG driven ETFs and other investments are increasingly looking like shit to large, institutional investors like pension funds. Union leaders are fielding complaints from their members that they're pissing away their retirements on queer beer for Dylan Mulvaney.

I kinda touched on this last year:https://battlepenguin.com/tech/the-coming-dot-com-bust-and-the-future-of-remote-work/#the-end-of-venture-capital-fundingI'm not sure if forcing boards to do their job will be enough. The reality is, Netflix, Uber and even old giants like IBM are not really solvent. They are either debt or VC funding leveraged. In the next 2001 style bust, the big VC firms will get to decided who lives and who dies (in the same way the US government decided the same with banks in 2008).

I mean, if you take that to the absurd, what if you were stuck in a town and you hated literally everyone who sold food in the town? I guess you couldn't vote with your wallet in that case either. It doesn't mean you can't meaningfully influence the world with targeted boycotts, letter writing and group organizing.Though yeah, crony capitalism makes all that unfairly ineffective and that needs to be opposed. That needs to be lobbied against.

Perhaps.Like speaking of Netflix, they told the woke troons to fuck off re: Chappelle. They had outcry about Chappelle allegedly being mean to trannies, and the media was stoking the flames, making the CEO out to be some kind of bigot stepping on the poor netflix workers. But they saw they had a massive hit on their hands and they had to make the profitable decision to go forward with him.Maybe money itself is a red herring, and fiduciary duty itself is what really gets things done. It does seem effective enough to me.

I mean, sure sports bras don't damage tits. And depending on fit and how someone wears it, there's a spectrum between binder and sports bra. YMMV.All that being true, it's still irresponsible to specifically endorse binders to someone because they're simply not broadly safe, even if some people manage to luck out on the safer end of the spectrum.

@icedquinn @Marvin @TheWitchBitch @djsumdog Also the alternative options when real binders aren't available are much, much more harmful from what I've heard, so having access to a real binder is still a net good even if someone is worried about the potential harm - since it's the least harmful option.

@icedquinn There's also resentment in unfair treatment. Going up into space as a tourist while the people at the bottom that put you there are pissing into Gatorade bottles because they'd get written up for taking a bathroom break tends to turn people against you. Treating the people under you well tends to keep people from posting guillotine memes whenever your face pops up on social media.

The "harm mitigation" philosophy doesn't apply to minors. You simply tell them not to bind. If they keep doing it, you get them treatment. It's the same with drug use or eating disorders or any other form of self harm.We do the whole "clean needles" thing with junkies because legally you can't force adults into inpatient. Like I guess you can have them arrested, but that's about it.But with minors, their legal guardians have the ability, and indeed, the obligation to protect their charges from dangers in the world, including self-induced dangers.

It was generally accepted by prominent members of the medical society to use lobotomies at one time. Leeches were used to drain the blood of toxins. Vioxx was an approved and accepted treatment for bone and join conditions in the elderly. Many widely accepted treatments turned out to be either ineffective (at best) or horrific (at worst). Before we had the ability to chemically and surgically modify people, treating someone with a distorted view of their body and/or reality involved helping them to accept their immutable characteristics. Now we’re in an era where people are told they can be treated by giving them drugs and cutting into their skin to make them sorta look like what their view of reality tells them they should look like. This is literally the stuff of Cyberpunk dystopian nightmare fiction, except none of the technology is anywhere near as good as it is in the movies/games/books.We don’t treat anorexics by affirming they are fat and telling them to eat less. We don’t treat people with Body Integrity Disorder by amputation (except in the most extreme cases where doctors are afraid the patient may hurt themselves, and even then it’s controversial). We don’t tell the bipolar schizophrenic their hallucinations are real and change the world to be correct to what is happening in their head. You miss the point that the generally accepted treatment itself is what can lead to irreversible damage and harm. @galena @Marvin @icedquinn @djsumdog @TheWitchBitch If someone thought he was a tractor, I wouldn't buy him a plow attachment and encourage him to strap it to his ass and drag it around the yard."Affirming" mental illness is not kindness and it sure as hell isn't proper treatment.

@djsumdog @Marvin @icedquinn @TheWitchBitch Big difference between wearing a binder and all of the more permanent methods of treating gender dysphoria. It's one of the most basic and entry level treatments, and one of the first steps for seeing if treatment would actually help or not. Gender dysphoria is a real issue that actually exists, and regardless of your views on trans kids, how effective the surgeries are, whether or not its become a trend, etc, it is undeniable that it exists; you need some nuance, even if you disagree with the extremes, that's no reason to cast it aside wholesale. Not only is this something used for treatment of it, it is also a basic tool used in the diagnosis of it - since, if it actually doesn't help at all, it's unlikely they actually have GD, whereas if it does help it's a sign they do have it. Denying them not only the most basic and least harmful forms of treatment, but even something used for diagnosis, is just disgusting and repulsive.

It can cause harm:https://sci-hub.st/https://doi.org/10.1080/13691058.2016.1191675We really don’t know the long term effects. As binding has a very strong compressive effect compared to sports bras, it could increase the risk of cancer. More study is needed … and it is difficult to due because of the insistence that it is a treatment.I never denied gender dysphoria is real. I’m saying your statements about using chest binders as a tool for diagnosis and treatment could be wrong; just like many other treatments of the past didn’t treat anything, and some of them made the conditions worse. since, if it actually doesn’t help at all, it’s unlikely they actually have GDIf you give someone a placebo and tell them if they feel x, they have y condition, do they or do they not have y condition? Your statement is unscientific, illogical and you get an F for your proof.

@djsumdog @icedquinn @Marvin @TheWitchBitch Didn't say you, specifically, did, but that it's a common argument against them. Futhermore, as I said, it's one of the least harmful options, not that it's harmless.

@djsumdog @icedquinn @Marvin @galena @TheWitchBitch >could be wrongm8 you don't need to tiptoe around the issue. affirming gender dysphoria delusions would be akin to telling schizophrenics their hallucinations are real. do we need studies to confirm that's not going to help?

@galena @djsumdog @Marvin @TheWitchBitch i mean you are technically correct it is not a double blind study. although a double blind study of this nature is impossible (how would you 'placebo' a breast binding)

@icedquinn @Marvin @TheWitchBitch @djsumdog Either way, it's not like there's any one test that conclusively shows whether or not someone has GD (or any other mental disorder for that matter). Attempting to dress and present as the gender the individual identifies as is one of the most basic and effective forms of diagnosis we have, even for individuals who are just questioning and want to experiment on their own, and using a binder is one of the many components of that. People are quick to lump it in with the most extreme treatments, when it's one of the most mundane ones available.

@icedquinn @Marvin @TheWitchBitch @djsumdog I think so. It's pretty common to depict women like that in traditional settings, at least.

The proper treatment is the same as with body dysmorphia, talk therapy.Physical interventions are like using alchemy and homeopathy.
