       The way the #fediverse has literally shat itself over the pending Meta deployment of ActivityPub has all but guaranteed that the next company will keep their ActivityPub plans completely silent resulting in the collective fediverse not knowing what has hit them when they launch.

       @gme Eh, as much as I deplore some of the behavior we've seen, I'm very against arguments that amount to "we should be nice to our adversaries to avoid provoking them." Especially when we're talking about the sum total of a lot of individuals' behavior, that no one person can control. (Please forgive my understanding if you weren't making this argument.)

       @misc That wasn’t my argument. But it’s okay. My point was what we have been witnessing over the past week or so is nothing by FUD. Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. Paranoia driven by conjecture and speculation. And a whole bunch of gossip and lies. People are literally making shit up and spreading their rumors as facts.Now, before anyone can put words in my mouth I’m not saying that the fear and paranoia isn’t warranted. I have a pathological fear of pit bulls because pit bulls have a very distinct reputation. My friends tell me I’m insane when my dachshunds were proven as a breed to be much more aggressive and dangerous. (Something I never experienced with any of the 5 dachshunds I’ve owned over the past 23 years.) But the difference is, a dachshund can’t eat my face off. A pit bull can, would, and has.I mean, people are out right saying that Meta is trying to buy out Mastodon, or Mastodon instances. Jesus Christ.If and when Meta joins the fediverse then everyone should take a step back and see what they do. If they start to behave badly, then block them. I will. But until then, the only thing these cries from Chicken Little have done is bring out the absolute worst parts of the fediverse and shone a spotlight right on them.
