GitLab is getting too many things wrong lately. "Get the AI-powered DevSecOps Platform", can't be worse than that đ¤ĻI'm not a heavy user, but they are making me regret moving a couple of projects from GH (two years ago).Looks like it is self-hosting or nothing. I'm officially an old git now. Get off my lawn!*grumble*

@reidrac maybe https://sourcehut.org or https://codeberg.org â moving back to GH would be equally bad IMO. And yes, GitLab is the kitchen sink and more, every update has something annoying and useless for the 97% of the people out there.

@aperezdc @reidrac old git to me sounds more like cgit kind of stuff rather than GitHub.

@lanodan @aperezdc @reidrac to me the closest to a modern "old git" (yes i recognize the paradox there) would be something like sourcehut, with how it basically relies entirely on email for a patch/issue tracker workflow.

@glitch @aperezdc @lanodan I like sourcehut, but I don't need most of the included things TBH

@reidrac @glitch @aperezdc @lanodan As a self-hoster, I only deploy the features I need... SourceHut is a solid example of the microservice architecture!

@reidrac @glitch @lanodan last time I tried, a couple of years back, it was possible to mix-and-match Sourcehut components to choose only the ones you want to use. Although for the sake of simplicity I would most likely go with cgit if I go back to self-hosting

@aperezdc @reidrac @glitch Yeah, you can just install bits and pieces (like AlpineLinux has meta+lists given that they already have cgit and gitlab). But it's still quite more of a commitment compared to a dumb git webview.

@lanodan @aperezdc @glitch yep, that puts me off. Like folks that love gitea: that's fine. I don't need it, I rather keep my life simple đ

@lanodan @aperezdc @reidrac yeah the software is suprisingly well-designed in general.always kinda wish i could deploy it instead of my current gitea instance. meta+paste+todo+man seems like a really cool combination of services, but the heavy reliance on email is such a big turnoff for me actually hosting it since I also have tried to host email in the past and I'd sooner step in a bucket of nails than do that again.

@glitch @aperezdc @reidrac Well there is email hosters though.(But can't really point to a good one, I self-host email here)
