@adiz@soc.outrnat.nl I think that’s the gist of it, and the answer to @damon@calckey.social ‘s question. A lot of people believe (or want to believe) that it will replace big social. It won’t. Much like Linux won’t replace Windows or Mac. It’s great that there’s an option for those who want things this way, but it’s not worth the pain for most people. That’s just the hard truth. Anyone who tells you otherwise is overdosing on hopium.

@malakai@the.occultist.space @adiz@soc.outrnat.nl absolutely correct. So then how do we handle those that come here? How do we let them know upfront this place may not be the place for them? It’s absolutely not going to nor supposed to replace Big Social. But, go read articles, posts, listen to Podcasts these things aren’t being said in regards to Mastodon and the Fediverse. Only the benefits are being touted and that leads to disappointment and poor experiences.

@damon@calckey.social I don’t think we even need to care about most of that anymore. Any unrealistic expectations were set up by the tech news, podcasts etc because they were hunting for a place to go after the Twitter takeover. That bunch has mostly calmed down and either went back to Twitter, or is shilling for bluesky.@adiz@soc.outrnat.nl
