With the soon to be changed Calckey, Mozilla’s Mastodon instance and Meta’s Barcelona there’s a lot of innovation taking place and space being occupied. I believe those that refuse to grow will be left behind. If people come to realise they can have great user experience with safety & support they will adopt the fediverse. The newer editions are coming to see this and are ushering in a new era

The more I’m here the more I believe the #fediverse will split. Initially I was opposed as I’m by nature opposed to division, but I’ve come to realise that not all division is bad. People want to live digital lives differently and even if I may not understand it, that’s okay.

@adiz@soc.outrnat.nl @fyrfli@bkgrdclrschm.link The problem is the rate at which instances have shut down. This leads to poor user experiences when users need a new home and lost their data. Also, for those that had to stop, I feel for them. I see the problem, I care that people have put their efforts, time and money into instances and have had to shut down. #press

@luttyz@birdkey.ml Big instances will be important and are not going anywhere to the annoyance of a small fraction of Fediverse members. As you have stated we cannot honestly expect and tell users to run their own instances. Can we do a better job at promoting the idea? Sure as long as we share the drawbacks as well. I believe everyone should be more open to versatile means of allowing instances to take care of themselves. I believe it will take a multi-pronged approach, similarly outlined in your post. I just don't agree with the lack of regard for the user experience and those that have had to shut down & migrate.

I see it broadcasted all of the time, telling people they can have freedom in the #fediverse but they never tell people that those freedoms are limited. Not everyone is a hobbyist and not everyone being told about the Fediverse is being told the entire story. As long as there are people that lack regard for the average person's experience Big Social will continue to be dominant.

@malakai@the.occultist.space @adiz@soc.outrnat.nl absolutely correct. So then how do we handle those that come here? How do we let them know upfront this place may not be the place for them? It’s absolutely not going to nor supposed to replace Big Social. But, go read articles, posts, listen to Podcasts these things aren’t being said in regards to Mastodon and the Fediverse. Only the benefits are being touted and that leads to disappointment and poor experiences.

@atomicpoet That freaking sucks. Byron and I both have had people wish death upon us over this Meta situation. It’s insane. They’re acting like the same people they supposedly “escaped” from Big Social. People should die because a difference of opinion? I’m really sorry, that’s so wrong on so many levels.

The servers defederating were nowhere near exaggeration, have you seen some of the heated discussions here? LolThe beautiful thing is ultimately everyone has a choice. People can get the experience they want. Only people that won’t are the creeps that want everyone to conform to their views of the #fediverse and still have access to everyone. It is annoying & bothersome how often users want to state how much better #Mastodon is than the alternatives. Speaking about quality engagements. I have experienced firsthand, seen and heard of very unbecoming behaviour. Instances being chased off, people being bullied and harassed into shutting down their projects, the gatekeeping, misinformation, racism and much more. #fediverse
