Classic case of the difference between #SocialMedia and #SocialGroups.The kind of stuff I post here is mostly Social Media. Like a blog, I'm putting stuff out there for anyone (in the world) who might have a use for it.But right now I'm sending a bunch of SMS texts to local friends about a thing I need help with, in person, tomorrow. SocialGroups stuff. The #fediverse can, in theory, support this kind of use case too. But I've yet to find an existing UI that's really good for this.

... with the possible exception of Mobilizon, but it's only part of the puzzle. It needs to be combined with support for federated private groups across the verse to really be useful for what I'm trying to do right now.

@strypey Once this arrives, having it appear as a option in the right hand column would be such a thing. I STILL haven't closed out my fb because none of my friends will come here and they really are my friends, and they have a chat group there that is very engaging and useful. If I leave that I lose them.

@shonin> I STILL haven't closed out my fb because none of my friends will come here... and even if they did, a whole lot of the affordances of FB are missing here, and to the degree they exist, they're not tied together in an effortless UX. Keep an eye on Bonfire. It's devs aim to solve this, and I'm told it will be ready for beta testing soon.

But that would be an ugly hack at best. As I said, I've yet to find an existing UI that's really good for this use case.
