@colinsmatt11 Burggit was my choice. I had already been a Lemmy user for years but had searched for an instance with less censorship.

@PublicLewdness I have kept my eyes on lemmy for a long time (just after a few months when it was created) like every other fediverse software.Reddit fucking up was going to happen eventually which would increase adoption but it happened sooner than I expected lol.

@colinsmatt11 It's been a hilarious event as an outsider. I will say there have been a huge uptick in Lemmy that I have seen. Time will tell if they stay or not.

@colinsmatt11 Seeing this posted somewhere else on the fediverse just made my day.

@PublicLewdness That would be decided at the end of the month because that's when the API policies would go in action. There's also kbin and honestly it's very promising, but I think it needs more clients because the default one isn't suitable for everyone which includes me.The APIs aren't stable yet or I would start working on one myself.

@colinsmatt11 @PublicLewdness The big reason I didn’t go with kbin for my instance is because on their git repository they said that federation was still a WIP, and it’s written in PHP. Lemmy, however, is written in Rust so it’s pretty fast and nimble in comparison to an interpreted language like PHP.

@Burger @PublicLewdness If I'm going to develop a fediverse application, I would go for something like JVM. Mainly due to the flexibility it provides specially in managing stuff. Most fediverse software suffers from management and upkeep rather than performance bottlenecks. For example: Epicyon is written in python but it's great software, and runs on a rpi without hiccups, whereas many software performance oriented language suffer a lot, mainly due to database bottlenecks but not limited to that.

@colinsmatt11 @PublicLewdness Yeah, the lemmy dev has stated that there’s quite a bottleneck with the DB performance. They’ve been focusing on that before the big day comes when API access is cut off. The recent minor version release already included a few performance enhancements to DB queries.I can’t even imagine what’s going through their heads right now. I’d be shitting myself at the influx of interest in my software and being given a month’s time to get my code into decent shape to be able to handle the huge amount of traffic.

@colinsmatt11 If I'm going to develop a fediverse application, I would go for GNU C with maybe fastCGI.Mainly due to the flexibility it provides specially in the ability to actually write decent software.
