I like that the #RedditBlackout is happening. Because it demonstrates how dependent many people have become on only this 1 website controlled by a few rich people.I hope this is a wake-up call for people and it will lead for some communities to seek independence. The Internet is !!!NOT!!! just 5 large websites.I believe in a decentralized Internet; huge central websites with the goal to be a "community of everything" are missing the point of the #Internet.#Reddit

@Wuzzy people are only going to tolerate their communities being ripped apart only so many times before they start to prioritize the technology (not to mention economic systems!) that are resilient to the problem of being taken over and destroyed by rich people.

@smn @Wuzzy Hopefully. However the masses will never notice #Cloudflare’s control over the #fedi as CF pawns more and more instances. So folks will migrate to the fedi & call it good enough, while marginalized groups will remain small and powerless, never able to shake free of CF’s oppression.

@Wuzzy@fosstodon.org Nice post, coming from a mega-instance with over 15000 users, behind a #CloudFlare proxy. You're contributing to the very issue you're worried about. If you want to support a proper decentralized Internet, support the concept of thousands of small instances, rather than a dozen huge ones. Stop using CloudFlare, which has become a very significant point of failure with a lot of power to keep track of who's doing what, when, and where on the Internet.Like you, I hope this is a wake-up call, but hope alone is worth very little. Practice shows that in the end, nobody actually cares, it's just a fad to say "reddit bad" for a couple days.
