       Ordered AMD Radeon Instinct MI50. This GPU has 4096-bit HBM2 memory running at 1024 GB/s. Used cards are sold at $100 to $150, it looks like the cheapest and fastest way to run my simulations (if I can find a good cooling mod, and if I eventually succeed at writing the GPU code...) #hpc

       @gsuberland@chaos.social Apparently these are not actual MI50, but a custom stripped-down version of desktop Radeon VII, and sold as Instinct MI50, specifically for coin mining operations. Obviously now they became worthless and start circulating around second-hand markets in China. Unlike the MI50, Radeon VII is extremely slow at doing FP64, but for FDTD is all about FP32.
