interestingly, there's kinda a feminist argument for "girl" as age-neutral, since it's one of the only terms that isn't derived from the corrosponding male term

@chjara @tebicat I'm personally for making he/man gender neutral and deriving a masculine term (though, only if we can't get over the gendered pronoun thing, ideally everyone would just use "he.")

@chjara @tebicat This is partially because I grew up around people who used "he" sometimes as gender-neutral, and it feels kinda awkward sometimes not being able to use it. But it's also just logical, and most people still use "man" to refer to both humans in general and masculine people. I think it's a lot more practical to get to that point for most people. It's not that long ago it was used that way.

@w@arachnid.town @chjara@snowdin.town @tebicat@tech.lgbt there is a case to be made here to avoid that specifically for that reason, to dislodge male as default

@emilis @chjara @tebicat I'm advocating for ideally just having "he" as neutral (so masculine and feminine, no "default") or at least creating new terminology like woman/she for people who are specifically masculine.

@emilis @chjara @tebicat To put it another way, "he"/"man" should not be masculine but rather a superset of the masculine and feminine pronouns. Ideally, we would eventually chop off the subsets and just have "he" for everyone.

@chjara @emilis @tebicat (Also, perhaps "her" should become "sher," and "her" is used with the gender-neutral he pronoun, with "him" being unused.)

@chjara @emilis @tebicat ((This would eliminate the potential claims of masculinity being the default, as half the gender-neutral pronoun is feminine from today's perspective.))
