What do you stand for? What do you prop up? Are they the same? Is what you're propping up beneficial to every stakeholder?

This post is dedicated to the doctors, fediverse users, teachers, family, and everyone else who thought a neuroimmune disease was just me being fat and lazy.

@nyx I've been posting against the Fediverse over the past week or so criticising the structures that exist here, and talking about healing/growing. I have (or maybe had, can't ever be too sure) trauma that social structures and manipulative people here took advantage of to use me. The same conditions in the past that's scarred me into behaving a certain way was used to make me a part of the systems here that hurt people. The purpose of this post is to dab on shitheads, but also to point out a cycle of abuse that's happened in a variety of contexts. The advice given has only made me sicker both physically and mentally. This account is mostly write-only now. I want to speak about things that might help other people, or get them to stop contributing to the social exploitation of people. My views on the illnesses that plagues this place is very intertwined with my own story.

Socialists despite concerning themselves with things like human-scale urban planning never concern themselves with human-scale social structures and democratic process.Collectivism at too large of a scale is not that different from neoliberal views on individualism. The closest anarchists get to human-scale society is mutual aid, but that's simply too unscalable in the pseudo-direct democracy they often propose.I guess you could call me a horizontal collectivist in the sense that the ability for humans to feel empathy and compassion without fatigue is impossible to scale society vertically. Let people focus on solving the issues that a horizontal model lets them see in front of them, rather than creating grand overarching issues in their units that are simply too much to feel on a direct level, or be emotionally present for after a while.Loose interconnects between many tiny communities does this. Direct democracy is just a matter of meeting up and speaking to everyone around you about what needs to be done, including if you need help, rather than appealing to a parabureaucratic and ableist/autismist(?) nightmare.

I think that caring about mutual aid before constructing society to enable it and be willing to help others is putting the cart before the horse.

@azrez I was given a provisionary diagnosis of ME/CFS in early 2023, and my doctor didn't tell me about it for months. It was only last summer that I found out. It's a disease with very specific criteria and symptoms I have. It's baaically a 1:1 match to what I experience and retroactively explained a lot of oddities I experienced. I've had a massive improvement in symptoms after identifying triggers for post-excertional malaise and avoiding them, which includes physical/mental/optical excertion.A lot of the advice I got from people (exercising more, get out of bed even if you feel bad, force yourself, slowly work yourself up, etc) was basically making me semi-permanently worse and sicker. I was basically in a perpetual flare-up.I'm waiting to see an optphomologist which will be a stepping stone to seeing a neurologist, who will go through the gauntlet of exclusionary diagnosis with me if we end up going down the ME/CFS path. But I would consider this to be an answer considering how specific of a fit it is.

It's really interesting how ActivityPub software doesn't try to be progressive but instead tries to imitate software engineered to control you. Like, the fact that Meta is the only one I know of trying real account portability is insane.

Kinda insane that Mario and, particularly, Sonic still have design elements that can be traced back to racist depictions of black people in cartoons. Even over one hundred years later.

I drank Soylent for a week as an experiment a couple of weeks ago, it honestly isn't that great. I don't get the whole le funnie soyjack face thing for a product that mediocre.Like the amount of sodium was so low that I found myself having to add salt to my drinks or else I'd get headaches and an unquenchable thirst. Each "meal" is only 400kcals so you need to drink five a day, increasing the cost beyond what you would expect. The only thing it has going for it is taste and texture. It isn't competitively priced compared to Huel (Essential is directly competing and way way cheaper) or Jimmy Joy.The ready-to-drink options are just completely unaffordable. The powder has no bulk savings options either. The other issues I faced were unique to me which I can't really blame the product for. I think I had a mild allergy to something in it (I think the corn?) I felt like shit, and got hives on my arms as well as inflamation I think. The only reasons you should drink it as a primary food source is if you're Canadian (because it's the cheapest option avaliable,) if you have a sensitivity to things in other brands, or if you're really picky and can't handle other flavours.

For context, I'm currently trying meal replacements as a strategy for managing health issues I have. There's times where I've straight up not eaten because I'm bedbound, or because making food would cause me to get sick and get in the way of other things I need to do.Going to the store, thinking about sales and budgeting, cooking, doing dishes, digesting the food, and cleaning up are HUGE spoon-wasters[1] for me. Meal replacements would let me avoid 99% of that and pace more effectively. Despite Soylent reacting badly with my body, it was still a useful tool in getting out of a crash I was having. It was much easier on my stomach and digestive system as well, and I didn't get horrible acidic shits as much and as intensely as I did eating solid food.[1] https://me-pedia.org/wiki/Spoon_theory

So something weird, I always thought Loeb rebranded to Metro in like 2012 or 2013, but it was actually between 2008 and 2009. I would have been at the oldest six years old.I very distinctively remember being annoyed at the change. Somehow my memory of a defunct grocery store chain driving me insane is still in my head since I was five or six. And I'm STILL annoyed when I see Metro stores. My autistic ass hates the change FIFTEEN YEARS LATER.
