       Some really cool stuff happening on the Cape Independence front - the recent tabling of the provincial powers bill being one of them: https://www.capeindependence.org/post/western-cape-on-brink-of-full-federal-autonomyRelated, and of personal interest, is the existence of https://green-cape.co.za/ (which is pushing for renewable power as an end to loadshedding, among other things) and the https://www.capemademark.org/ organization (which advocates for Western Cape-produced goods and services).There might be hope for this province yet!

       @wogan No shade intended, but it's interesting how central government is reacting. We got that Zuma idiot as prez to give ANC control of KZN because of the supply routes to Gauteng, but they seem a lot more relaxed about the possibilities of losing W Cape.Maybe they think it's already a "lost cause", but I think it's something that bears watching.

       @OutOnTheMoors The ANC hasn't had their act together in the WC in a long time (from what I've seen, and I haven't been paying much attention). All the money in this province comes from people actually doing/making/selling stuff, as opposed to up north, where all the money is pulled out of the ground, the latter seeming to be an easier thing for the ANC to get their heads around, policy-wise.

       @wogan We could spend years going through the ANC's litany of flaws but the fact remains that they are (1) the duly and democratically elected leaders of this country and (2) that Cape Independence functionally cannot and will not ever happen, nor would it be advantageous for it to happen.Living in a fantasy world is not an upgrade from a shitty real world, it's a distraction.

       @OutOnTheMoors Definitely recommend buying a copy - there are some really wild insights in there.Among them, the fact that South Africa's dependence on coal is more or less directly driven by Gwede Mantashe's power base, which is heavily into coal mining - so for the sake of a few thousand jobs in Mpumalanga (and, no doubt, other shady dealings), the renewables agenda is constantly blocked.It's breathtakingly myopic.
