       Anybody under 50 who thinks they'll ever see a dime of social security has been drinking the bong water.Social security is going to disappear, and it won't be because one party or another votes to end it.  Rather, because it's a pyramid scheme, and politicians can't keep their hands out of the cookie jar.  The scheme must inevitably run out of money and collapse.

       @SirBemrose I feel like you don’t understand how the pyramid scheme works.  As long as there are workers, there will be social security.It may dip a bit if the number workers drops off or the number of retirees spikes, but they’ll just print more money.

       @SirBemrose In New Zealand, they started KiwiSaver, which is like a 401k for all. They take a few percent out of your wages, and use it to buy into an investment fund, which is checked by the govt, but not guaranteed.When you retire, you can get superannuation (like social security) plus a top up from your KiwiSaver.I have always assumed the KiwiSaver fund will go broke before I retire.Most people don't contribute enough to the fund, because broke, or chose the wrong plan anyway.
