       Even people who know how to use semicolons correctly tend to be reluctant to use them because they know that so many people don't understand them; this is very unfortunate.

       @lauren others will end every statement with a semi colon;If a sentence starts with "if", it is exempt from that rule

       @lauren It took me a long time to finally have a theory of what a semicolon is for: It is a lightweight variant of a period, a not so full a stop, more of a rolling stop. A period could always be substituted, but it would break off a phrase that is better left attached.I might be misusing it, however.

       @lauren ( First words for my new intro coming, soonish)I'm a real grammar, usage and punctuation nerd. A misplaced modifier  gives me the creeps. I have to stop myself from correcting the folks I meet on here.
