Did you know that there is a relatively old (but active!) forum website that caters to fans of "old" washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, and other classic appliances, some of which have literally achieved cult status for their features and/or quality and for which fans expend great effort to trade info and parts to keep them running?Of course you did. I love the Internet.https://www.automaticwasher.org/

@TonyJWells Over the last couple of days they found a part I needed new OEM for about $15 including shipping vs. the official part which was $120+shipping.

@lauren Good to see old style forums still running. They had issues as always with some users and moderators, but the niche single interest forums were often a joy and full of information and advice.

@TonyJWells They're probably going to wonder why they got DDoS'd by 2000 hits suddenly (when I mentioned their URL here just now).

@lauren my father's widow still uses our Privileg (formerly popular household appliances brand in Germany) washing machine from 1980. Will have to check, but I might find it in this forum ☺️

@eliasp My dishwasher is from the 60s. Turns out it's now considered an uber-classic.

@eliasp Apparently in the U.S. it was or was related to Electrolux.

@lauren yes, seems to be the same make, different brand. Found a few similar ones, but not exactly "ours".Will have to check once we're (finally) selling the house in a few months.

@lauren My Mother In Law had a variety of curling iron that she loved..She bought dozens of them.We found that they are still loved by many and have sent some of them to new homes. The internet has some good stuff.

@lauren I have my grandmother's ancient GE iron (she died in 1981, and it's from well before that). Had to clean out the hard-water deposits, but it does work.We usually used stuff until it died, so everything I remember was already old. Cookware from the late 40s, toaster from 1950, dryer from 1953, TV from 1954...

@PJ_Evans Now old TVs are a different matter. I for one celebrated the demise of CRT-based TVs and monitors.

@lauren That one got retired in 1973, and we got a COLOR TV in time to see the photos of Jupiter. (Local cable company got a direct feed from Ames, before the images were processed, so we actually watched them come in.) Dryer died in 1993. I have the cookware.

@PJ_Evans I actually still have one big CRT TV that died years ago (typical flyback failure) that sits in a corner because it's too damned heavy to move.
