Welcome to 2026. Here we go gang. So, it's raining on the Rose Parade which starts in half an hour, first time rained on in 20 years. It's been running since 1890. It has run every year since then except 3 years during WWII, and in 2021 due to COVID. Rain doesn't stop it. Outside temp is already over 50F at 7:30AM so that's not a problem. Just light rain now but hardest might be during the parade. We shall see. People are out to watch in the rain, even though umbrellas are technically banned. Lots of plastic ponchos. Watching it on TV, always on KTLA-5 which was the first to telecast it, first to do it in color, first to ... well, everything with the parade and they run it without commercial breaks. Watching it on 5 is one of my earliest memories here in L.A. I don't think I've missed it more than a couple of times, though it's not the same without Eubanks and Edwards hosting. Pre-parade countdown reveals a Star Trek 60-year float with an admittedly cool transporter effect. Woman in pod one. The door closes, a few seconds later the door opens to pod two about 10 feet away (with no obvious surface path between them) and she's in there. Either she's moving fast underneath or she'd better hope rain doesn't short out the Heisenberg Compensators. OR: She could be twins. Shades of "The Prestige"!

The only way to reign in #AI is to make the Big Tech firms 100% responsible -- in a civil and criminal sense -- for damages done by AI responses. No exceptions. Make sure that any of their attempts to shield themselves under Section 230 fail. There are already politicians attempting to undermine Section 230 more generally. I have long been a defender of 230, but if decimating 230 is what's necessary to slow down this AI Horror show, then so be it. There will be a lot of collateral damage on the Internet in that case, but it could well be worth it to society. And lives will be saved.
