How can you always tell something is Christian music after hearing 0.25 seconds of it? What is "that sound" they all have?

@RustyCrab bad, usually, but to be more specific, post-grunge/buttrock (which already inherently sucks) + inherent corniness of all protestant art

@vriska I mean it's not an exaggeration. Just 1-2 seconds without hearing any words at all you can usually tell. It's something going on with the instrumentation.

@RustyCrab thats the post-grunge. the entire production style of post 1997 "rock music" that wasn't indie rock is supposed to sound like that, and the only people who kept making music that sounded like that after 2001 or whatever are christian rockers. also, another reason why it sucks so much is that its all made by former drug addicts whos christianity was forced on them by 12 step cults, so its not even really sincere. It's the brickwalling compression too

@vriska yes "bad" is part of it but it's distinct from other normal bad music.

@RustyCrab Major key scales have less of a dark sound to them. When you write a melody, it is either diminishing or tends toward smaller intervals at the end, or uses more whole and melodic intervals.A lot of this music approximates the whole scale at parts, like church music, but the big "sound" seems to be that booming major key melody that spreads out toward the end.

@vriska @RustyCrab It’s not Protestant art as a whole, it’s just because of fake self-righteousness that makes you afraid to express the truth particularly of groups that are descendants of the puritans and other sects the primarily settled North America. It’s actually because of the specific beliefs involved too since puritans (as a calvinst sect) hold to the doctrine of ‘’purseverence of the saints (interpreted as all Christians unlike in Catholicism)” (basically means that all real Christians will show clear signs of improv and other groups hold that someone has to continue improving and be

@vriska @RustyCrab t’s not Protestant art as a whole, it’s just because of fake self-righteousness that makes you afraid to express the truth particularly of groups that are descendants of the puritans and other sects that primarily settled North America. In specific, I think it's because of their actual beliefs too since puritans (as a calvinst sect) hold to the doctrine of ‘’purseverence of the saints (interpreted as all Christians unlike in Catholicism)” (basically means that all real Christians will show clear signs of improvement or are fake, never really elect/saved and therefore going to hell) and other groups hold that someone can "lose their salvation" (likewise if they don't show said continuous improvement as well). So I think because of these two prevalent ideas people essentially live in a state of fear of showing authentic attitudes and it leads to the shallow inauthentic art.[sorry for the wordy post, but just something I have thought about but never explained to someone so I had to put it down]
