Another year, another fucking book whining about "dying masculinity" that just boils down to "Why I can't I be a selfish asshole anymore." It's weird. Almost all of my male role models were powerful and selfless, guys who saw their role as using their power to protect people who didn't, and happily surrendering that power if that's what it took. Where the fuck is this bratty whining about I'm a real man am too am too am too coming from anyway?

@Dseitz Republicans disguise white supremacy and Christian Dominionism in a variety of ways. It's religiously based fascism. The fake "Masculinity Crisis" is an example. Gun culture is one."You can't have the vote" is another. Women & trans can't have agency & autonomy is one too.Forcing people to break the law in order to live is a common fascist strategy.

@Waterloo2 There's a religious doctrine used by evangelicals to justify child abuse & murderIt's called "the strict father". It means punishing children until they obey, even unto death. Women who interfere are punished as wellThey apply the same doctrine to public life and government. It justifies the vigilantee gun violence They presume to place upon themselves the mantle of control & power, & not elected representativesThey see law enforcement as an extension of this cult belief

@Dseitz I've been reading about the history of slavery lately. One curious historical tidbit, the slave trade got a global boost because the Catholic church loaned out Jesuits as translators as the Portuguese launched their colonialist empire. The global human trafficking industry was enabled by "Christians". It was financed by banks & governments. Imitated widely by successor colonialist empires. And became bone deep within American culture.

@Npars01 @Waterloo2 This doesn't pass the smell test. Evangelicals who justify corporeal punishment? Ok, you can find them. But "punishing children until they obey, even unto death"? If you can find "evangelicals" who believe this it is EXCEEDINGLY few, and would be deemed an actual cult way outside the mainstream of American evangelicalism.Argue against real issues, not straw men.

@electrafish @Npars01 @Waterloo2 This is an incorrect comment, co9mpletely unaware of far right churches.Republican crazies are bringing laws to sentence mothers to death for abortions.Do NOT let them play down the crisis of fascism in American churches.

@kevinrns @electrafish @Waterloo2 I provided over a dozen links demonstrating links between the hard right, physical violence, and fundamentalist Christianity and got...radio silence in response.

@Npars01 @kevinrns @Waterloo2 I mean, I'd still be reading if I tried to read them all!I'm not saying there's no such thing as abuse and murder among evangelical Christians (as there is among all types of people). If you're indeed responding to the extreme interpretation of male headship used by a few Christians (so-called) that justify abuse, then I'm more in agreement with you than not.1/2

@Npars01 @kevinrns @Waterloo2 But I still maintain that "punishing children until they obey, even unto death" is not at all accepted by the vast majority of Christians, including evangelical Christians. The Wikipedia article you linked states this as well: "Christian groups and authorities generally condemn domestic violence as inconsistent with the general Christian duty to love others and to the scriptural relationship between husband and wife."2/2

@electrafish @kevinrns @Waterloo2 There is no hate like "Christian" love. The difference between what fundamentalist Christians "say" versus what they "do", is vast. The violence is real & it has led to the deaths. One type of mass murderer is the "family annihilator" who kills an entire family when the daughter dates or the wife divorces him because "Christianity" says women can't make their own choices. The FLDS believes in "blood atonement" for apostates.
