@lowiesI think the Canadian federal government is constrained constitutionally by the Health Act. That specifies the transfer funds earmarked for health care have to be used for health care, but the provinces make the decision how health care is delivered. So Ontario uses the funds to pay for-profit clinics to deliver health care through OHIP, including 50% markup for cataract surgery and 100% markup for hip and knee replacement surgery.@gemelliz @waterlooregion @jamiewestndp

@gemellizEven worse: Public health care spending is transparent, or auditable through Freedom Of Information legislation; private, for-profit health care spending isn't covered under FOI. So we don't know how our OHIP money is being spent by for-profit clinics.Jim Stewart said this piece of secrecy was deliberately included in Bill60, now law as the "Your Health Act 2023". With a PCO majority, opposition parties couldn't make any changes to the bill.@lowies @waterlooregion @jamiewestndp
