@signalapp @Mer__edith The problem is, it’s not only UK’s issue. We have quite similar thing in EU (so called Chat Control regulation) and in USA (I think it was EARN IT act). This encryption-backdoor-thing comes and goes, but now it came with pretty solid, from the populistic point of view, argument. Let’s be frank - sadly - people mostly don’t care about privacy, what they care is child safety. And this is goddamn good argument to get peoples approval.

@signalappPretend for a moment I send someone an AES encrypted file over Signal, sharing the password out of band - how would you go about scanning that? Hell, unless you scan the text of all of my messages, I could send the password in the same chat, and you still couldn't scan it.Unless the next trick is to flag up unscannable attachments for further inspection, but then you'll have moved well out side the scope of this idea, into "guilty until proven innocent" territory.
