@trabimechanic Thank you! Just my gallows humor. Others have shared their frustrations here, so I figured I'd join in.I'm tough and stubborn as hell.

@tkinias Yes, will perhaps post more about him. Very sad.Admin.: no excuse. They have financial problems but do not seem to see that moving us to 3-2 and/or 3-3 (no pay increase of course--though we are against capitalism!) will force us to teach differently AND reduce the attention to the outside-class advising and project work that historically constituted the third course equivalent. And that in turn will attract a lower calibre of students whom we won't be able to support. But whatever.

@toddo I meant you: unless I misunderstood :)We don't have tenure (instead, a series of renewable contracts, though it's the same thing, de facto--though we are arguing for introduction of tenure as part of any increase in workload; personally, I think it's a sop rather than a concession because I understand rules and statistics, but: whatever)

@CitizenWald Yes, that’s the kind of thing that might indeed be financially necessary, but they’ve got to understand that it will necessarily involve tradeoffs.I mean, you only have so many hours in the week. If you increase your course load 50%, either you cut out advising or research/writing time or you spend 1/3 less time on each class.

@MagdaTeter Thanks! Dark humor and a tragic-ironic view of life keep me going.Plus: when life gets tough, I just ask myself : Is this problem like World War II? Because it never is, I just get on with my life.

@MagdaTeter Indeed, much appreciated! On the topic of worse: One of my colleagues said that when she greeted an older man in her neighborhood, and asked how he was, he always replied, "couldn't be better." She was puzzled at how someone could be so cheerful and finally asked him: "Why do you always answer, 'couldn't be better"--can you really be doing great all the time?"He replied: "No. If I COULD be better, I WOULD be better.."
