       OpenAI wants regulation. This is what they want1. A new regulatory agency. They do not want to be regulated by the FTC because they want to pretend that they are not just another corporate entity trying to make money. But also, a new agency is likely vulnerable to regulatory capture. If staffed by people sympathetic to OpenAI, this agency can give grief to emerging competitors

       OpenAI proposed regulation cont’d:2. Create a set of standards for AI models. Note the emphasis on self-replication and exfiltration into the wild. These are existential doom scenarios. OpenAI would rather be regulated on impossibilities rather that than harms like misinformation, defamation, discrimination, or privacy.
