@cynicalsecurity you’ll never get a battery life near what you can get with Apple silicon but usually thinkpads work well with BSDs. I have a T495 and a X1 carbon gen 6 and both work well. FreeBSD does not have wifi ac support with the integrated intel chip though

@cynicalsecurity I'll be that guy and say: a M1 Macbook Air? OpenBSD 7.1 should at least output to efifb on such machine, and wifi should work as well - which IMO, is the bare minimum for a usable laptop.Otherwise on the Intel land (sigh) I would suggest a Thinkpad X260, which can be found with 1080p screens at reasonable prices.

@cynicalsecurity you can but I don’t really mind a “slower” wifi.Note that OpenBSD has better intel wifi drivers that can do wifi ac and the FreeBSD people are working on it.
