Due to a second huge influx of spam from mastodon.social I am now limiting mastodon.social access to twit.social. Nothing changes for users that already follow, or are followed by, users at mastodon.social.To prevent spamming, new accounts coming from mastodon.social will have to ask for permission to follow or message anyone at twit.social.We are NOT defederating, just limiting. This should solve the spam problem without disconnecting you from the accounts you follow.

@leo I really like the idea of social networks being "reputation-based invitation-only" (my name for it) where you can only join if you're invited, and your ability to invite people is based on the behavior of the people you invite.You invite people who are well-behaved? Awesome, you get to keep inviting people.You invite people who post a lot of spam? Your ability to invite more people is "throttled."

@leo I appreciate the effort to protect us from spam, thank you.Does this stop anyone from mastodon.social appearing in the hashtags I follow and on the federated timeline? It seems like that's what's happened maybe?

@leo do you want to be notified of this stuff? i saw some stuff that was outside of my parameters, delete or blocked it , and moved on. i figure that if i saw it, you guys saw it and you will deal with it.
