LB: #VtuberHouse folks, I have in the past defederated from instances dedicated to scraping/indexing/searching other instances' posts. It didn't really cost us anything because they were bot/script instances that didn't offer any content of their own.But it turns out some full-fledged instances, even otherwise friendly ones with popular accounts, do index others' content and let people search it--potentially opening us up to keyword search nuisances we weren't expecting. Is that block-worthy?

@kaliranya I'm not your instance user but if I can bring up one issue with that:If you will block every instance that just has search capabilities (even if it is public posts only), you will need to block too many of ones that just use Misskey/Calckey/Akkoma and potentially Pleroma (though pleroma search) instances.

At the moment I'm leaning toward moderation action only if a fulltext-indexing instance actually proves to be a source of harassment or sealioning, but I understand how being more proactive might be helpful for peace of mind (not wanting to get back in the habit of saying "crapto" and "urtwork cammissians" and "T*RF")...

@untsuki@udongein.xyz @kaliranya@vtuber.house Also Friendica. All predate the existence of Mastodon so you really are gonna end the Fediverse and will end up with just a Mastoverse, as only the Mastodon API currently supports the no-indexing preference. It's not supported at the ActivityPub level.
