You guys really think the Western internet will accept things about China or Russia or Iran that goes against the mainstream narrative? I said on Reddit once that wasps are as important to the environment as bees and I got literally the exact same response as if I had said something positive about China or Russia. They're not just unwilling to accept other political views, they're unwilling to accept other views period. Reasoning with them is pointless if they've already decided what to think.

@sine_city @AgreeableLandscape yeah, people have a really hard time accepting that the world isn't black and white and that the west isn't some sort of a garden while the rest of the world is a jungle. You pretty much have to believe this narrative to accept all the interventions the west does around the world. It's not western nations acting in cynical self interest, but it's the benevolent west bringing enlightenment and democracy to the savages.

@AgreeableLandscape You're looking at the views of people in the US and US-allied in the military and intelligence, as well as the interests of very rich people in Europe. It is representative of a very small minority in the world. Your average person in the US doesn't care enough to talk about politics, much less on a platform like Reddit. Even politically active Americans are avoiding platforms like Twitter or Reddit. All you have to do is give Americans more accurate news.

@heap Except I was talking about ecology as an ecologist and I got the *exact* same reaction as when I was talking about China. This isn't a politics thing, this is an everyone and every serious topic thing.

@AgreeableLandscape Sorry about it, I read too quick. The education has been failing for decades now, and the mainstream platforms bring out the worst in people. I can't even use platforms like Reddit or Twitter for anything useful. They treat questions like insults to their intelligence, and answers like opinions that need to be challenged as if we're in the court room.
