@steffo I am logged to Matrix<>Telegram bridge as the only app.Telegram required to change API keys, but to do that I need to get login code. And I cannot get the code because my only login is locked behind those keys... Ugh.Why do they even need phone numbers anymore if I can't use it?This reminded my of all the other bad things about Telegram like unusable E2EE and that they now require official app builds for registering (phylosophly it's now nonfree).I was keeping Telegram for those new friends that don't have anything unpopular and Telegram being the only free one, but after months the number of those friends is 0. Turned out they use it for following channels and do not want to really talk there.

@didek You don't have access to your phone number any longer? I understand it might be philosophically non-free, but you should be able to perform a SMS login via the official app.

@steffo The SMS is not delivered to me, even from the official app. I remember there as an option to send code that way, but is not there anymore.Tried to contact the support but no response so far.

@didek In my case it's the opposite: the overwhelming majority of the people I know only want to communicate via Telegram, so I'm somewhat stuck there until they move elsewhere...

@didek Honestly, when they introduced targeted ads (based on the content of channel messages), it plummeted even below Discord for me.It's not like (non-secret) chats are encrypted in either, and I'd take spammy "Get Nitro" ads anytime rather than subjecting people to disinformation.If only Matrix had more resources to be developed...

@ksv236 The features and the app itself is #1 indeed, but this is a dead end.If someone would like to talk me on TG, just like with Signal, because instead they only would use Facebook, ok. But I wouldn't promote apps that limit choice and have single entity deciding on everything.

@didek Telegram allows freedom more (which is debatable coz many misuse it). They'rent deciding things on everything. Their ToS is the simplest. I'm not just supporting or against ur decision. But just wanted to learn y u took drastic decision and leave such a good app.

@ksv236 It's good... For now. But the ToS can be changed at any time and there would be nothing to do about it.
