Is anyone actually surprised audio with just a cover slide isn't effective on YouTube?We tried this from 2016 through 2019, got no traction, and have been experimenting with other forms of video ever since.Maybe people thought it would be different because podcasts are now in YouTube Music, but I'm not surprised it's not taking off.https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2023-05-04/youtube-s-podcast-deals-with-npr-slate-and-new-york-times-are-flopping?srnd=premium#podcasting

@grammargirl honestly, a little surprised, since my kid spends half her time with YouTube videos on in the background of some other activity. then again, she's not looking for more serious content...

@grammargirl On my iPhone, YouTube stops playing if the screen lock comes on, so I have to keep the screen on all the time if I want to listen to YouTube audio. That's not very practical.(I do audio on YouTube with just a cover image all the time, but then I'm offering guided meditations and people have their eyes closed anyway. You just have to call your Podcasts "guided meditations on grammar" and you're all set!)

@grammargirl I listen to loads of music on YouTube with just cover images. However, I would also be the first to admit that I may not be representative of the general population!

@grammargirl As you say, unsurprising. I don’t personally like video podcasts — yours excluded, of course — because they rarely seem to hit the sweet spot between chaotic conversations, and over-rehearsed/produced documentaries.

@grammargirlThe title of that article should be "podcast networks don't understand podcast listeners".YouTube is terrible for serialized content. It's hard to come back and continue where you left off, either in the same episode or the next episode.I want to listen to podcasts on my podcast app because the app is 1) designed for listening to podcasts; 2) it addresses problems in that space. Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube and similar thing do a bad job at this.
