Latest sci fi classic read.- A Canticle for LeibowitzI came into this book not knowing anything about it. Read it in two days. It did take me a while to get into the writing, and I wasn’t even sure if I was enjoying it. But I couldn’t put it down.I was surprised at how much the ending hit me. #Bookstodon #SciFi #Classics

@joewynne I can see why. It totally drew me in, and each setting had characters I was invested in.

@meshell Good to know, I was drawn into it. It even has some genuinely amusing moments along with the running theme.

@KikiElara And the several points where the fainting occurred at key revelations. Still remember and I read it in the 70s.

@KikiElara One part this tale always annoyed me. The blueprints. No one ever realized they didn't have to do them the very stupid way? Or was this a commentary on literalism vs sensibility?

@bok I guess that in the first section they treated absolutely everything as significant until proven otherwise. So yes, they weren’t being trained to think deeply about the memorabilia. It mentions at some later point that they work out the blue was because of the process used.

@KikiElara They eventually figured it out, yes, but if you drew a butterfly in red crayon on yellow paper and gave it to a five-year-old saying "Can you copy this," do you think the kid would reply "No, I only have white paper"? The whole error just stuck me as implausibly stupid, when a simple "originally white on blue" note would have sufficed, if anyone even thought that noteworthy.
