So much depressing tech news. I feel like watching some comparatively light entertainment, like "Crack in the World" (1965).

@lauren afterwards, a quick reread of I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream to wind down

@laurenSounds… uplifting.“Crack in the World is a 1965 American science-fiction doomsday disaster movie filmed in Spain. It is about scientists who launch a nuclear missile into the Earth’s crust, to release the geothermal energy of the magma below; but accidentally unleash a cataclysmic destruction that threatens to sever the earth in two.”

@lauren when I'm down, and I've not done this in a while, my go to is always The Stooges. The boys always, always, pick me up.

@TruthSandwich I do recommend it. It's a fun disaster film. Great score. And don't judge its geology too negatively -- it was made just before continental drift was widely accepted. - https://tubitv.com/movies/639642/crack-in-the-world

@laurenYeah, continental drift is obviously a myth, just like round-Earthism.

@joelpomales As I've said, a high point in my life was meeting Larry Fine.

@TruthSandwich It took a long time to be accepted, despite the way the continent puzzle pieces obviously fit together.

@laurenYeah, sometimes scientific progress has to wait on old scientists dying.

@lauren Ah, "Crack in the World"! VERY fond memories of that one. Years ago, someone tried to revive the Loyola Theater in Westchester by bringing back double features, short subjects, and Bank Night. It only worked for a while, but when he was forced to close, he held The Final Event, 25 hours of PRIMO SF movies! On my birthday! Many H'wood types came. And for "Crack in the World", it turned out the producer was sitting two seats over from me.
