When I come to think about it.. Perhaps about 50% of my thoughts are also in English these days :amaze: My gf and me speak a lot English at home just for fun also

@stux I guess there are similarities between Dutch and Swedish in this regard (as well as linguistically). Pretty much anyone you'll encounter online who understands those languages will also understand English.

@gaycookie @stux I understand enough Dutch to make sense of your post. Wouldn't dare to try writing anything, though. If I put my mind to it, I could probably learn Dutch to a reasonable degree in a few months, but why bother? Everybody there speaks better English anyway.

@gaycookie @stux Germanic languages all have a lot in common. What surprised me was how quickly I was able to learn a useful amount of Spanish once I made an effort.

@stux @gaycookie try it with a Mischung von Duits et Francais en je hebt a common Sommerlager bij nous 😋(At the international Workcamp the language is English, but with mostly 7 to 8 different nationalities, you might encounter words in more obscure languages too 🤣 I manage English, I am Dutch, my German is rather good and I can use some basic French, but that's about it!With my husband working in Germany a lot of the time, we speak a mix of that and Dutch at home!)

@stux same here, but I live abroad. It's hard to speak dutch these days 😂The other day I watched something in English with dutch subs and it was sooo strange that I needed to switch it off 🤓Ik ga morgen terug naar belgie voor een week en ik weet niet of ik nog correct Nederlands kan praten!!

@stux Fun fact (and maybe unpopular opinion): every time I hear someone using an Anglicism in my language (Spanish), I pretend to not understand what (s)he is saying unless (s)he uses a Spanish counterpart.
