I finally decided to try #wayland. More specifically #hyprland. Surprisingly, few issues despite using #nvidia.Specifically I am on a laptop with an RTX 2070 max-q.The only issue (at least with the latest upstream build), was that I had to comment out this line in the nvidia instructions on their wiki:env = GBM_BACKEND,nvidia-drmOtherwise it crashed on startup.

@zbecker once you get settled down on #hyprland, try this #emacs package I wrote: https://git.mitchmarq42.xyz/mitch/hypop.elLet me know what you think or if there's any problems (if you want). I've been using it for a while but haven't tested other setups.

I have only extensively used 3 other TWMs: #xmonad, #awesomeWM, and #qtile. The obvious thing in common with those three is that they are configured in code, rather than a normal config file. Part of the reason for this is that gives you theoretically unlimited customization. This is the main reason why I have stuck with xmonad for so long. Simply put, compared to all other TWMs, it has the most librariesThe reason why I am bringing this up, is that hyprland is configured by a config file.Fortunately, it's plugins system mitigates this somewhat and theoretically gives the best of both worlds.#wayland #hyprland #nvidia

The only other issue that I have, and this is presumably wayland specific, is that my python userspace keyboard driver led driver isn't working under wayland. Fortunately the author created a #DKMS kernel module. Unfortunately it is not a feature rich, but it does the job#xmonad #awesomeWM #qtile #wayland #hyprland #nvidia

@mitchmarq42xyz I think I saw your project on a #reddit post when I was researching #hyprland.I am not exactly an #emacs wizard (I use #doomemacs, although I might make my own from scratch config eventually) and only really use it as my text editor, note taking app, rss reader, and a few other things. Regardless, I will check it out.Due to my lack of advanced emacs knowledge, I don't know what the implications of your package. Your demo kind of shows it as a more emacs central alternative to something like #rofi, #wofi, #bemenu, and other application launchers. Although I would imagine it can do a hell of a lot more.

@zbecker actually, it does even less! Basically just separates the minibuffer/echo-area into a separate window that gets hidden when not in use.The application launcher I'm using is actually https://github.com/SebastienWae/app-launcher, tho frameworks like `helm` and `ivy` have alternatives built in.

@mitchmarq42xyz Makes sense, the old one program that does one thing well. I assumed that was the case as the emacs ecosystem is as powerful as it is because is just an emacs-lisp interpreter. Either way, I will most definitely look into setting it up, as one of the things that emacs does really well is making your emacs environment consistant. The more things I don't have to individually theme when I get really bored the better.

@mitchmarq42xyz You might want to add this to your readme installation instructions, as this is the canonical way to install for doom emacs: (package! hypop.el :recipe (:host nil :repo "https://git.mitchmarq42.xyz/mitch/hypop.el.git" :files ("*.el")))I can open an issue if you would prefer.

@mitchmarq42xyz @zbecker I didn't know about that app launcher! I have been fiddling with Wofi and Fuzzel, but using Emacs as a launcher sound way nicer! Thanks
