@rolle I am not surprised. Google has been trying to get #wearOS off the ground for years.

I've been hearing for the longest time that #tumblr was joining the #fediverse, does that actually have a release date or is that just on the #roadmap #mastodon #theresistancewillbefederated #activityPub

@Wolfie_Rankin @atomicpoet @fediversenews Thats funny how their reasons for why the internet won't succeed are the same exact ones stated for the #fediverseFirst time I actually really wanted to do a quotetoot, so I am just stealing @shoq's method...

I finally decided to try #wayland. More specifically #hyprland. Surprisingly, few issues despite using #nvidia.Specifically I am on a laptop with an RTX 2070 max-q.The only issue (at least with the latest upstream build), was that I had to comment out this line in the nvidia instructions on their wiki:env = GBM_BACKEND,nvidia-drmOtherwise it crashed on startup.

I have only extensively used 3 other TWMs: #xmonad, #awesomeWM, and #qtile. The obvious thing in common with those three is that they are configured in code, rather than a normal config file. Part of the reason for this is that gives you theoretically unlimited customization. This is the main reason why I have stuck with xmonad for so long. Simply put, compared to all other TWMs, it has the most librariesThe reason why I am bringing this up, is that hyprland is configured by a config file.Fortunately, it's plugins system mitigates this somewhat and theoretically gives the best of both worlds.#wayland #hyprland #nvidia

The only other issue that I have, and this is presumably wayland specific, is that my python userspace keyboard driver led driver isn't working under wayland. Fortunately the author created a #DKMS kernel module. Unfortunately it is not a feature rich, but it does the job#xmonad #awesomeWM #qtile #wayland #hyprland #nvidia

@mitchmarq42xyz I think I saw your project on a #reddit post when I was researching #hyprland.I am not exactly an #emacs wizard (I use #doomemacs, although I might make my own from scratch config eventually) and only really use it as my text editor, note taking app, rss reader, and a few other things. Regardless, I will check it out.Due to my lack of advanced emacs knowledge, I don't know what the implications of your package. Your demo kind of shows it as a more emacs central alternative to something like #rofi, #wofi, #bemenu, and other application launchers. Although I would imagine it can do a hell of a lot more.

@mitchmarq42xyz Makes sense, the old one program that does one thing well. I assumed that was the case as the emacs ecosystem is as powerful as it is because is just an emacs-lisp interpreter. Either way, I will most definitely look into setting it up, as one of the things that emacs does really well is making your emacs environment consistant. The more things I don't have to individually theme when I get really bored the better.

@mitchmarq42xyz You might want to add this to your readme installation instructions, as this is the canonical way to install for doom emacs: (package! hypop.el :recipe (:host nil :repo "https://git.mitchmarq42.xyz/mitch/hypop.el.git" :files ("*.el")))I can open an issue if you would prefer.

Regarding the #reddit to #lemmy situation, I think you will see people bringing the same complaint about mastodon lobbied against lemmy within the next couple of weeks. The complaint that I am refering to are the complaints about it being "so hard to pick an instance." The reason why I am saying this is that to an average user, lemmy's website is even less informative than mastodon's regarding this issue.#redditMigration

@mattl #linux distributions are collectively called linux, because they all have the linux kernel. #Alpine linux doesn't have #gnu and #Void makes GNU optional.Should we call our distros GNU/Linux/Systemd/Grub/Gnome?Of course not, that's dumbBut then we exclude ChromeOS and Android. Whether or not something is linux is down to an arbitrary philosophy. That being said, the GNU approved distros (GNU guix, hyperbola, etc) I would probably refer to them as gnu distros or GNU/Linux distros.

@tchambers Honestly that's what I love about the #fediverse. A group cannot be banned from the entire platform and if your in a decently moderated instance or self-host and use #fediblock (I think this might've changed to something else) you're free of those people.Personally however, unlike Elon I actually am a free speech absolutist, and as such I don't use any curated Blocklist (I am the sole user of my server. If I had other people on the server it might be a different story). I just block people who I deem as spam, such as that user rapebot (I think the server was Detroit something). Most people haven't seen it because instance admins really are the unsung heros of the fediverse. That being said, I don't see many crazy people like that unless they throw in #mastodon or #fediverse as most of my followed hashtags are tech related.

@kainoa Its not just straight white men. Most people in general are pretty weird IME.That being said I don't go to coffee shops. I order green coffee beans and roast them myself. Coffee shops are wierd and overpriced.

@matthew Yeah I use a French press as well. I usually make my coffee the night before and ice it in the morning.Buying a roaster was one of the best decisions I ever made. I pay less than half of what I used to pay for beans, and I am actually roasting lighter than I was ever able to buy. I find coffee tastes best roasted to first crack and then stopping.

@lsn I agree with her that the ranking algorithms should be visible, but requiring everyone to verify themselves by name is just ridiculous. Also, all companies have to do is get out of the US (I am aware this is much easier to say than it is to do), and there's not much any administration can do, unless the US wants to start blocking websites.IANAL, so feel free to correct me about the second statement.
