Maybe the problems people have with Mastodon are unsolvable on a large decentralized network and the reason #BlueSky doesn't have them is because it's actually still just a small closed platform. Maybe the very smart people who think they know what Mastodon needs to do and want to talk shit, should instead join together and fork Mastodon and add those options. Obviously this perfect thing they create will bring all of Twitter here and Mastodon will no longer dominate the #fediverse.

@wjmaggos I've been following you for a while and observed you make statements without providing any references or links. Are these "unsolvable" problems documented anywhere?Either your are speaking to the choir, in which case links are not needed, or they are needed otherwise. Please do share.

@saahbs usually I read/listen to something and it triggers a post, but often the article is just part of what's been in my head. everything isn't really clear. I think my brain is good on associative unconscious processing, but lower horsepower. lots of random commentary here is also part of it.people want simpler onboarding and features that support diff communities better, but diff communities want diff things and decentralization means we must choose.https://erinkissane.com/blue-skies-over-mastodon

@wjmaggos A Mastodon hard fork is not necessarily the best option. A soft fork that maintains upstream compatibility (but updates the UX/UI) could be the proof-of-concept that is all that is needed.

@wjmaggos thank you for the link.I'm a big fan of rss and still fb user, and see activityPub as a way to move to open web while maintaining functionality.Global search is really needed and could likely be done today by using google index (for now). For me everything else mostly works. I have some issues with Mastodon limitations (ie post length, attachment limit), but that is not a protocol limitation.

@wjmaggos or use a different Fediverse software. Calckey has message quoting and search, AND interacts with Mastodon. You can follow and be followed Calckey <-> Mastodon.

@wjmaggos @saahbs That's the key issue, different communities prefer different things AND communities aren't homogeneous either. https://luis.apiolaza.net/2023/05/01/social-everything-buckets/
