Dead Island 2 releases and it's pretty much meh, not terrible but not great. Looks like Redfall won't even accomplish that based on the leaked early reviews and gameplay footage. What is it with devs having difficulty creating horde based games; zombies, vampires, or even Darktide which had a ton of fucking issues as well at launch..

@Jim i remember 15-20 years ago there was an entire genre of chinky games where some samurai/ninja would fight an endless horde of enemies. i didnt personally get it but they were pretty popular.

@BuhtaBoomah @Shlomo Turns out the entire plot of the game has a twist. You aren't killing vampires because they are evil bloodsuckers but because they are deeply racist. That's why the main character is a black woman. The ending leaked already online and as she is staking the head vampire, who by the way is wearing a full klan outfit, all the other charactes are clapping and screaming "slay queen, slay". After she kills him Beyonce starts playing and everyone dances as a memorial to George Floyd is displayed on screen for a full 30 minutes.

@Unsolicited Game sizes are out of control these days. It's always sort of blown me away that the console makers in particular want to do digital only and leave you with enough hard drive space to install about 6 games before you have to start deleting shti.

@Jim @Unsolicited Only nintendo has kept games below 20gb, most being a couple gigs, letting you pack your hardware with tons of games. Tears of the Kingdom is 18.2GB which makes it the largest game in existence for the switch.

@Jim Because devs are lazy and have to add a bunch of extra shit now because all zoomers are autistic and need their hoard shooters to have 472 perk trees. That they will never use cause 95% of them will buy it and play it for 14 mins and then just watch someone play it on twitch while they also play boom each and scroll tik tok. and for the 5% who play for longer than 30 mins will just google "x game perk meta" and use the 5 useful perks

@Jim @Unsolicited This makes sense when you consider game devs don't want you to have time to play more than one or two times. Everything has tacked on RPG numbers and season passes to force you to grind their game and nothing else. Then comes a game like Deep Rock Galactic that only asks for 3GB and is insanely replayable.

@JimI recall a few console games where the developers let you choose whether to download HD textures, so that you could cut down on the bloat. So it's definitely possible for games to do. Then some other games are just 120+ GB for no apparent reason...@Unsolicited

@Jim Not sure why people would bother with dead island 2 when dying light surpassed it, but then again i never touched DL2 despite loving the first game because of the red flags.
