I like the fact that in the #Fediverse the primary goal is not algorithms or making money, but owning your data and using social networks in your own terms.#BlueSkySocial FEELS like open and decentralized but has been received funding from Twitter and has not yet fully reveal its monetization plans. This is why I won't fully trust it. I'm glad they won't invest in the ActicityPub protocol. Their reluctancy to AP is also something I find strange even after reading the arguments.Let's remember that #BlueSky a startup company, and companies are to make money. This is where #Mastodon for example is different, there is no monetization and never will be.

@rolle Jack already proved he can't be trusted, so there's no way in hell I'm leaving here to go to yet another doomed Jack Fucks Everyone Over And Protects Nazis backed project. The fact that BlueSky is a PBC tells me everything I need to know.

@bob @rolle The protocol was defined a while back, and is similar to the one Mastodon uses, apparently. That it is not a non-profit, and has Jack Dorsey as a major shareholder, who will demand high profits, is why I will never ever use it. I don't trust ANY of those people further than I could kick a skyscraper, and nor should anyone else. Ever.

@rolle@mementomori.social Honestly I am not a fan how the only BlueSky instance is closed up, with the only way to get in is being lucky in the wait list or getting an invite code from someone (and from what I know, you need to wait around a month to even get an option to give someone an invite code), I've even seen some people selling invite codes to it. It's goddamn weird.

@demi Yeah and that, too. They are claiming to be so open and transparent, yet making early adopters to wait.

@rolle @demi because the whole point of a capital funded startup is to make money first, provide a service second. So launching with hype before it's really ready is the name of the game: hype sells more than a stable text exchanging service. Etc etc etc.The whole point of writing a closed source (insert timely tech buzzword here) instead of using and contributing to the existing open source version is so you can control and sell the code, as Twitter did.

@rolle @joepie91 I’m disappointed their stock “PDS” (homeserver) software is so reliant on AWS, and from what I’ve gathered in their public dev chat so far, it doesn’t seem like they have any plans to make one that is easily self-hostable. It seems like their vision is for people to have nomadic identities, but for them to be largely based on bigger/commercial PDS providers. Maybe the community will step in, but it’s a very different model from Matrix or Mastodon.I do see why they didn’t go with ActivityPub, stuff like account migration being a second-rate citizen here is one of my biggest annoyances with the fediverse, and their concept of label-based moderation you can subscribe to independent of your PDS seems novel to me, I’m a bit optimistic about that. So I want to try Bluesky out still and see how things play out, but yeah, there’s absolutely a lot of unanswered questions and a distinct possibility it just becomes Twitter 2.0. All that being said, Mastodon GmbH is also making a lot of suspicious moves I’m not excited about lol

@rolle Nope. I'm happy here, too, away from the Musks and Dorsey's of the world.

@rolle Entièrement d’accord. On a déjà donné en la matière. Plus d’une fois. Et avec Twitter nous connaissons le résultat. Totally agree. We have already given in this matter. More than once. And with Twitter we know the result.#Mastodon plus que jamais / More than ever
