Can any of the Quebecois spinsters give me a hand in identifying this old school snack/remedy. My mother was feeling under the weather and asked me to make rice pudding. I'd never made that before, so googled a recipe and whipped it up as quickly as I could before bringing it over. She took one bite and said it's too sweet and not what she remembers. Then she says maybe it's called blanc mange. But I googled that, and somehow it doesn't look right either. Does anyone know what she's talking about? Is it just rice pudding without the sugar?

@Kay In case it’s just that she’s remembering an older recipe, this is from my Ouma’s school recipe book:

@Kay Blanc-mange (or blanc-manger) is basically thickened sweet milk. No rice involved. Cornstarch, milk, sugar, and vanilla. Some people add other spices as well.https://www.recettes.qc.ca/recettes/recette/blanc-manger-3019

@Fullycaffeinated I think that's the one. Google kept directing me to English Blanc manger recipes, that sounded completely wrong.

@Flick @Kay The measurement of a teacup is giving me a brain aneurysm. I have professional tea tasting cups that are 25mL, a 70mL "hat cup" that I use most of the time for regular tea, an 8oz cup that I use for milk tea...

@Flick Oh maybe I'll try this recipe too... I just need to decipher the measurements. Is one teacup of milk equal to 8 oz? And what temperature is a slow oven? I'm a really stupid baker/cook. I need everything crystal clear, or I risk burning it all.

@Kay I’m afraid that that is very much an exercise for the reader.
