Paternity leave #golang hacking:I've abstracted out cmd/go's GOCACHE backend so instead of just using a local directory it can now delegate to a user-supplied child process helper to do whatever network/storage/cache policy you want.See https://github.com/bradfitz/go-tool-cache for details.

@bradfitz why pass objects on the wire from cmd/go to cacher but store on disk when going the other direction? Seems a bit odd/limiting? Your HTTP cacher could read from network and write straight to the fd?
