🆕 blog post -- Sync comes to Google Authenticator but Chromebooks left outIf you’re serious about protecting your online accounts, you’re surely using some type of #authentication app. Today sync comes to #Google Authenticator, bringing it to closer to other options. Sadly, #Chromebooks are still second-class citizens when it comes to Google’s authentication solution.https://www.aboutchromebooks.com/news/sync-comes-to-google-authenticator-but-chromebooks-left-out/

@kevinctofel If you’re serious about protecting your online accounts you're not using Google Authenticator, you're using an open source TOTP system like Bitwarden or KeePass.

@Adam Fair point! But Chromebook users are already very much tied into Google's services, so they're not likely to use, let alone even know about, those. I do try to surface such options, having just covered NextCloud as a Chromebook replacement for many of Google's built in services. I'll continue to do so.

@kevinctofel Ah, nice! Learning NextCloud is still on my list, but I can't decide where I want to put it. :) Maybe Oracle Cloud free tier just to learn/test.

@Adam or just a local Raspberry Pi / spare PC if you have one. I cut my teeth on a Pi and then set up a $5 monthly Linode for my cloud implementation. https://www.aboutchromebooks.com/news/how-to-create-a-private-alternative-to-google-services-for-chromebooks/

@kevinctofel Yeah, I read your article. I have an awesome Debian 11 file server at home that would be cool to have it on with access to all of my photos, but I don't know if I want all my stuff to be that easy to access either. Maybe keep it behind a Wireguard VPN? These are decisions I haven't thought through yet. :) Did you set up email on yours too?
