       If someone tells you to be nervous or worried about something, they usually don't have your best interests at heart. What they want is for you to feel fear (a lot of times the same fear /they/ feel) rather than try to overcome itThere is a huge difference between telling someone to be afraid, and telling them to be ready.

       In other words: "Here is a bad thing, it's going to affect you and we're fucked" is unhelpful fear mongering."Here is a bad thing, it might affect you so you should be prepared" is a helpful warning.
