Any Mastodon admins out there using Wasabi for storage? How do you feel about it?#fediask

@misty I use it. It's fine. It's cheap. Sometimes really new posts show up without media initially. I'm not sure if that's a Wasabi problem or a problem with my NGINX proxy.

@jordan Oh interesting, good to know. I feel like that interaction can be really hard to diagnose.

@misty I am planning on using Wasabi for my mastodon storage as well, so thanks for asking this question as I too am curious about the experience from those who have already done it.

@kescher Permanently, or is that within a particular retention window?

@misty Didn't use it for Mastodon, but it is _very_ slow, charges for deleted items, and your monthly egress limit is the amount of storage you use, which is very weird. So if you host 20 tiny PNGs and one 1 minute video, no two people can watch the video without the limit being hit. It is probably OK for rather evenly distributed archival access, but not for items that are shared and might become popular—unless you're moving there with a large amount of data from the get go.

@misty @jordan In my research, it looks likes you should really be putting a commercial CDN (like CloudFlare) in front of Wasabi for the best experience and not caching it on your own if possible (I am unsure if Mastodon currently supports this)
