Since Google Docs switched to HTML canvas based rendering X11 copy/paste doesn't work anymore (marking text to copy and middle-click to paste) 🙄

Just had a peek into this book that discusses floppy disks as a cultural practice https://www.onomatopee.net/product/floppy-disk-fever/ — excellent stuff

@misty elk.zone is a little better interface-wise with displaying threads.bonfirenetworks.org has the best thread display (to my liking at least), but it's not ready to use yet.

@misty Didn't use it for Mastodon, but it is _very_ slow, charges for deleted items, and your monthly egress limit is the amount of storage you use, which is very weird. So if you host 20 tiny PNGs and one 1 minute video, no two people can watch the video without the limit being hit. It is probably OK for rather evenly distributed archival access, but not for items that are shared and might become popular—unless you're moving there with a large amount of data from the get go.

@misty @hailey Just a minute ago GitHub didn't show a file that has 45k lines because it was deemed too large. I used the raw view and Firefox rendered it in an instant. With a real scrollbar, with the ability to use the browser's built-in search, etc. But I guess it's no fun unless you basically re-implement the whole browser as web workers or something 😉 …Inner-Platform Effect

I always dreamed of a record shop where records aren't ordered by artist or year of release, but more semantically: aerobic exercise records, tunes recorded by accordion playing policemen, records with covers that were clearly made in power point, etc… piloting this with my own collection this leads to a large number of highly interesting groups of maximum 3 or 4 items. In my day job I am managing linked open data.
