After admitting the state-affiliated label was wrong, Musk changed NPR's tag this weekend to "Government Funded Media"—even though NPR gets less than 1 percent of its annual funding directly from the US government.https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/04/musk-admits-npr-isnt-state-affiliated-after-asking-questions-he-could-have-googled/?utm_brand=ars#botOriginal tweet : https://nitter.1d4.us/arstechnica/status/1645487219388424195

@arstechnica That is an interesting word directly. I would have said funding from the US government but you needed to add directly for some reason. This is why no one trusts you people anymore. You are a joke. And I would like the government to fund 1% of my income. Trying to play THAT off alone is pathetic.

@montetrecarte @arstechnica You mean like EV and Space stuff? Are we ready to demonize that yet? Or is that still "right wing"?

@arstechnica So can we deem Musk "Government funded shitbird" since he gets more than 1%?

@arstechnica Yes, but only true if you're disingenuously literal. It's true the federal government directly provides less than one percent of NPR's budget. However, the feds also make direct payments to local NPR affiliates. Those affiliates then turn around and pay that money to NPR. In total, more than a third of NPR's funding comes from federal grants. https://gigafact.org/fact-briefs/does-npr-receive-less-1-its-funding-directly-federal-government

@bryansmart @arstechnica And then they wonder why trust in the legacy media is tanking faster and faster even with the most biased of polls. The rest is from ads. They get their money from ads making them legacy just like the rag ars and from the government like an archaic media.
