One thing I've learned from being on Mastodon (third time around) is not to reply or otherwise engage with tech people on their own posts. Most--not all, but most--are only interested in presenting their own opinions, and are not interested in any discussion. Reply with something you have deep personal knowledge about based on decades in specific areas of business, but which doesn't align with their views or experience? You're a reply guy. Much worse here than Twitter. Silencing myself now.

@FLGLchicagojust be you. we're in a cultural transition here. it used to be more about tight communities loosely joined, but we're moving to a situation where most people here are loosely connected to their server. some are dealing with that better than others.

@wjmaggos Don't get me wrong, I've met and followed and talked with many good, even brilliant, and welcoming, tech people here across instances and I've learned a lot. Frankl bad experiences go back to the earliest days of the service, with some personalities believing talent excuses behavior, which might be one of the reasons some are more comfortable away from mainstream endeavors. If it's like that for me, who spent 30 years in tech, I can only imagine what it's like for civilians.
