This claim is false.Law enforcement has the ability to get stored communications from companies like Twitter under 18 USC 2703(d). This is a famous "d-order" that has to be signed by a judge. Companies can demand reimbursement under 2706. You can argue that 2703 should have a higher standard, but if the government can get to user data should it be free or should the companies ask for a nominal cost? This is absolutely nothing to do with content moderation.

I'm generally a fan of Reason, but this paragraph is based upon a false premise.https://reason.com/2022/12/19/the-fbi-paid-twitter-3-4-million-for-processing-requests/

@alex Agreed. Empty moralization. Better argument: most dictatorships come about through capture of police agency, so it is DANGEROUS to let the FBI have this power.

@alex And my favorite part of all this is: I don't give a fuck about Hunter Biden, who has no position in the government, one way or another anyway

@alex I am confused, are your stating that it is false that the gov payed twitter to censor the story because they have to ability to request information.Sorry if I have been too reductionist in my assessment, but,I don't understand how a request for information proves that they didn't pay to suppress a story.

@alex @micahflee Can’t we just call a lie, a lie rather than a claim that is false?
