Let's have a skill share thread!Whatever your chosen creative field, share a tip, technique, or bit of advice that you'd impart to someone else starting out in that field (something less obvious than 'practice' :D)I'll share one for my line art mandala drawing - if you're drawing a line that has to end up in a certain place, like the middle of a space, put a dot where you want the line to go and your eye will naturally guide your hand towards it when you're drawing.#SkillShare

@Curator Photographer Harold Davis has lots of editing tutorials on YouTube, and in one of them, he made a comment that I’m often guilty of ignoring. I can’t remember his exact words, but to paraphrase them: Time is one of your most important tools in editing. When I’ve created an image I’m excited about, it’s easy to rush it out into the world, but I’m learning that giving myself time to sit with images helps me make them more impactful for someone who wasn’t with me in the moment.

@jawlrc Yep, ‘sleep on it’ is a good thing 😉 I’m also guilty of rushing it out, specially when it’s (space)weather related, it can’t wait …

@Curator great initiative! as far as photography is concerned: questions about techniques or how-tos are always welcome. at least I'm not aware of what would pass as a tip or just stating the obvious. one is so familiar with one's own techniques, i.e. uses them so naturally, that they may seem completely trivial.

@viewfinderCurator @Curator Re #Photography, now that the #MilkyWay season is here, to get PIN-POINT stars, devide 500 with your focal length. If you’re going to stack, use the 300 rule (300/focal length). But yes, for many, this is a very basic tip.

@EZLorenzImagery 1/ Yes! In my case, I often realize my excitement was more about the conditions in which I was photographing, and not so much about the actual image I created! It’s amazing how time affects our reactions to works of art, whether they are our own or someone else’s creation. An artwork that feels outstanding in one set of conditions may not have the same impact when seen in different conditions or when you’re in a different mood.

@jawlrc “The point is that one sees things at different moments with different eyes. Differently in the morning than in the evening. The way in which one sees also depends on one's mood."—Edvard Munch

@EZLorenzImagery 2/ I am trying to learn to slow down to give myself some time to evaluate my images in different conditions. Since I mostly create digital photographs to be shared on digital platforms, I try to view my images on different screens and in different lighting conditions. How does it look on my iPad if in sitting in a brightly lit room with the screen on full brightness? One on my phone when I’m in a dark room with the brightness as low as it can go? Etc…

@EZLorenzImagery 3/ I’m also trying to remember to give myself time to evaluate images over the course of at least few days, during which time I might experience who knows how many mood changes that impact how I view my own work.

@jawlrc It’s good to revisit images later on, even long months later, you see them with fresh eyes, through different interpretations , or I might have developed more skills in post-processing the RAW files etc.

@EZLorenzImagery 4/ But I’ve got to admit that sometimes I rush the process for no other reason than hoping for the sweet feeling of validation that comes with “likes” and “retoots.” I know it’s a terrible way for an artist to evaluate their own work, but I am often guilty of falling into that trap.
