@Curator Photographer Harold Davis has lots of editing tutorials on YouTube, and in one of them, he made a comment that I’m often guilty of ignoring. I can’t remember his exact words, but to paraphrase them: Time is one of your most important tools in editing. When I’ve created an image I’m excited about, it’s easy to rush it out into the world, but I’m learning that giving myself time to sit with images helps me make them more impactful for someone who wasn’t with me in the moment.

@EZLorenzImagery 1/ Yes! In my case, I often realize my excitement was more about the conditions in which I was photographing, and not so much about the actual image I created! It’s amazing how time affects our reactions to works of art, whether they are our own or someone else’s creation. An artwork that feels outstanding in one set of conditions may not have the same impact when seen in different conditions or when you’re in a different mood.

@EZLorenzImagery 2/ I am trying to learn to slow down to give myself some time to evaluate my images in different conditions. Since I mostly create digital photographs to be shared on digital platforms, I try to view my images on different screens and in different lighting conditions. How does it look on my iPad if in sitting in a brightly lit room with the screen on full brightness? One on my phone when I’m in a dark room with the brightness as low as it can go? Etc…

@EZLorenzImagery 3/ I’m also trying to remember to give myself time to evaluate images over the course of at least few days, during which time I might experience who knows how many mood changes that impact how I view my own work.

@EZLorenzImagery 4/ But I’ve got to admit that sometimes I rush the process for no other reason than hoping for the sweet feeling of validation that comes with “likes” and “retoots.” I know it’s a terrible way for an artist to evaluate their own work, but I am often guilty of falling into that trap.

@lowqualityfacts It has zero ingredients but one not-ingredient, which is “not-ice cream.”

I’ve got a couple minutes of #MonochromeMonday left in my corner of the fediverse. This one didn’t get a lot of love when I shared it a few months ago with another photo, but, since I’ve not shared much recently and the daisies are currently blooming in Knoxville, let’s see how everybody likes this photo of daisies from Washington state in 2019.

@peggycollins I’ve encountered this image several times as been boosted by several accounts I follow, and every time I’ve seen it I’ve had to stop just to let my eyes enjoy it. First they take in the composition, then they get lost in the colors and textures. It’s quite a stunning image!
