@Renegade_GDI The âconservativesâ in Russia, or Poland for that matter, are usually tribal creatures, unable of any own analysis, be it based on the Christian ethics, be it on purely utilitarian thinking. They are no different from Homo Sovieticus in their inability to use brains. For obvious reasons Iâm following fates of these hypocritical idiots mostly in Poland, but I assume itâs the same story everywhere - âconservative activistsâ who rant against âhomosexual depravationâ and end up being outed as gay, ranting to ban divorces and end up getting divorced themselves, ranting against abortion and end up secretly aborting a disabled foetus, ranting against âhomosexuals raping childrenâ and end up defending their local priest who is both homosexual and child rapist etc etc.Long ago I identified myself as conservative but after seeing the scale of the sheer stupidity and hypocrisy in these circles I decided I donât want to be even close to themâŠ@PawelK @DotardTed @UkraineWillWin

@PawelK In Chernobyl the pollution was caused by conventional (not nuclear) explosion of the reactor, which caused burning graphite and reactor fuel blown up into air in the form of chunks and smoke. Overall mass of released radioactive material went into tons. In case of nuclear weapons the mass of released radioactive material is counted in kilograms, which is spread over large area, so at the end of the day pollution is nominal.@DotardTed @Renegade_GDI @UkraineWillWin

@DotardTedTribalism isnât the same thing as âsocial norms and lawsâ. Tribalism is a very specific subset of social norms, where the same deed committed by one human who happens to be your tribesman is treated differently than one committed by someone else. Tribalism is the culture where when you do something to âan alienâ itâs treated differently than if you did it âyour ownâ, because only your tribesmen are considered âproper humansâ.So yes, while tribalism had its role in evolution of simple societies that roamed in relative isolation 100â000 years ago it quickly started to become an obstacle as the societies started to get more complex. And what was quite revolutionary specifically about Christianity was the rejection of tribalism, probably best illustrated in the parable of the Good Samaritan and in the letter to Galatians: There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. @Renegade_GDI @kravietz @UkraineWillWin @PawelK> more like chernobyl Yes and no. An atomic bomb is just a few pounds of radioactive material, Chernobyl was 200 tons!So yes, a ground blast will irradiate tons of earth and throw that irradiated earth high into the atmosphere, irradiating a much larger area. But the half life of this radiation is very short, it will still become safe within a few months.Reactors release TONS of highly radioactive products in intense concentrations nearby.

@PawelK @kravietz @UkraineWillWin @Renegade_GDI @DotardTed the way i understand it (and keep in mind I'm no nuclear physicist),when you have a ground blast, aside from the fireball and the shockwave, you're also dealing with what's called neutron activation.Basically, elements in the soil get bombarded with free neutrons from the nuclear reaction, they absorb them and thus become unstable themselves.Kinda like fission products in used reactor fuel

Reading their propaganda is sickening by itself when they claim the US attacked them with the use of Ukraine (lolwut?!) then call sovereign nations 'historically ours' when those people mostly saw them first around 1793, like Belarus or right bank Ukraine

@Renegade_GDI @kravietz @UkraineWillWin @PawelKI sometimes wonder if the difference between Ukrainians and Russians are the Russians chose to be subjects of Batu Khan. While most cultures were fighting the hordes, Russia just opted-in. There seems to be no shame, wives giving soldiers shopping lists, asking them to wear condoms when raping Ukrainians!

@MordkoWell, the whole idea of Christian schisms, of Orthodox vs Roman vs Protestant goes straight against the whole set of ideas of unity of people laid out in the New Testament. The very term "Catholic schism" is literally an oxymoron granted what Katholikos means in Greek. What Christianity became today I won't even comment as it has very little to do with the original idea, and in some countries (e.g. Poland) it made a full circle back into the pre-Christian tribal ethics draped with some Christian-resembling rituals but void of their substance. A typical memory I have from the times when I attended service in Polish churches was the crowd mechanically mumbling a classic prayer "and we're forgiving our enemies" while five minutes later the priest went into a full-scale rant about some "evil" group, be it Jews, be it Germans, be it "homosexuals", or whatever they presented as "enemies of Polish nation" at any given time.@UkraineWillWin @Renegade_GDI @DotardTed @PawelK

@MordkoEmpires are an interesting phenomenon and much has been written on that subject. Mongol empire, Roman empire and Russian empire were all indeed built on the idea of ethic inclusiveness, which was of course forced upon the conquered nations, but offered some career path to those who decided to cooperate. At the same time they were still enforcing compliance on a clearly defined set of values â e.g. you couldn't make a career in Tsarist administration if you were a socialist or didn't have the Tsar's portrait prominently displayed on your desk, which was kind of tribalism, just based on characteristics, as you said, not on ethnicity.@UkraineWillWin @Renegade_GDI @DotardTed @PawelK

@Mordko 100% right, thatâs the instincts and cognitive biases we inherited in our genes, but once again the whole point of civilisation was to understand and overcome them. Some people control these instincts better, some worse, but on overall as a humanity we stopped dumping our elders or disabled ones from cliffs, stoning women for âindecencyâ or burning them as âwitchesâ, and doing all the other stuff that people did historically in response to their most basic instincts. The fun part is that itâs a continued process because our children are born largely with the same set of instincts as our ancestors, which explains why itâs such a difficult process that sometimes fails and whole groups temporarily return to their basic savage behaviours.@UkraineWillWin @Renegade_GDI @chowderman

@Mordko Here comes the power of evolution: these behavioural patterns are also partially driven by genetics. Thanks to the chromosome exchange happening as part of sexual reproduction, chances are that among that 10 people at least one would be born to compete (literally, due to a mutation) and will contest the obvious nonsense. As it often happens, todayâs nonsenses (e.g. food taboos) are often evolutionary-beneficial heuristics that were valid 1000 years ago in a particular place but lost their evolutionary benefit as the group changed their environment. In such case abandoning the taboo would improve the contestantâs well-being and give him an immediate evolutionary advantage in the form of more accessible and broader menu.Of course, you may have such a contrarian who will eat a poisonous plant and die as result, but evolution is game of statistics. If you have series of contrarians who were generally right, with a bit of luck (=time) they will ultimately win over the âconservativesâ.To make things more interesting, sexual reproduction on its own is often described as a paradox because itâs much more energy intensive than asexual one. But evolution seems to value long-term benefit, just as itâs the case with big brains and intelligence.@UkraineWillWin @Renegade_GDI @chowderman

But humans can eat other mammals, like rabbit, that's a form of some rodent. They could eat dogs like Koreans or eat seals when they have little other options, like those Aleuts, they have to survive

@Renegade_GDI Exactly that. There are various hypotheses about the origins of various taboos, and thereâs plenty of them in various religious scriptures, and some are more obvious (related to menstruation or food) while some are less obvious (like a ban on mixing fibres of different origin). From biological point of view, humans can eat anything they can digest, period. Including, of course, other humans. Why is cannibalism a taboo then? Most likely because itâs not beneficial from long-term evolutionary point of view, and for the same reason why altruism has appeared as a virtue in opposition to a dog-eat-dog egoism. Origins of most sexual taboos are also more of social than biological nature, maybe except for incest. The whole point of post-modern deconstruction was to contest these taboos: for example, if the only real argument on why women must not vote is âbecause our mothers didnâtâ, then itâs quite obvious to contest that argument as itâs rather limited in its essence. In 1973 one of the US therapists (forgot his name) formulated a nice response to the conservative argument about things being ânaturalâ vs âunnaturalâ, basically saying that the only thing that is unnatural in sex between two consenting adults is what is impossible from physical point of view. That is quite illustrative for the complexity of the taboo topic: on one hand he instantly demolished a whole ivory tower of religious or ideology based taboos, which claimed that a lot of things, such as sex for pleasure, sex outside of marriage, same sex sex or interracial sex, are âunnaturalâ.On the other hand incest has very specific biological risks, while sexually transmitted diseases are another one. So the taboos made some sense in the times before penicillin and before condoms, then they no longer made sense. And they again started making sense after spread of HIV.Food taboos are even more fun, because as most of the religious ones were abandoned in the general population, others promptly were invented such as âorganic foodsâ, âfree fromâ, anti-GMO etc etc đ@UkraineWillWin @Mordko @chowderman

@kravietz @UkraineWillWin @Mordko @chowderman as nobody would even tell Muhammad what they do with their wife in bed the taboos that worked are purely practical for society, i.e. women should cover sexual parts and that includes bosom, so 'they don't get molested'. I even agree with Muhammad modern women still prefer bra even if they have AR-15 so hard to be 'molested', and sometimes it's hard to tell if khimar covered that April Rogers bosom, I'd like to do some molesting

@Renegade_GDI The origins of various taboos are often complex and indirect: when you see a patriarch with a raised finger speaking about the indecency of women walking topless, always look if there isnât his wife just behind him and projecting her own fears into his ear while using twisted arguments like âitâs for the younger women protectionâ đ@UkraineWillWin @Mordko @chowderman

@kravietz @UkraineWillWin @Mordko @Renegade_GDI Taboos develop over time, and progress isnât always to less taboos/more liberalism.Homosexuality was common in Roman times wasnât it? India had a tradition of transvestism.Cannibalism - Grandma can be a valuable source of sustenance, but human flesh often contains human diseases, so there is a risk.

@kravietz @UkraineWillWin @Mordko @Renegade_GDI As for why women canât vote, the very question implies a democratic society. Democracies evolved.(In the UK) In the old days women were legally the chattels of men, like cattle. Would you allow your goat to vote? You need to value women first before wondering if they should vote. And even these days, many societies donât value women, despite the freedom of knowledge.

@kravietz @UkraineWillWin @Mordko @chowderman Muhammad emphasized superiority, sort of "our women look modest now, compared to non Muslimin so we now go call Syrian women whores until Syrian men heathen infidels go kick our butz! Then I send my fidayeen human waves of suiciders! That's secret weapon, don't tell anyone!'
