Five hours ago I started swapping-out a piece of dryer duct figuring it would take an hour. Then I disassembled the entire run, cleaned out each section of pipe and replaced the external flapper thing. I just finished cleaning up and now I need to clean my filthy self up.This is why I don’t do estimates. In my experience it is impossible to estimate what it will take to do a job right. I could have finished swapping the part in the time I guessed, but once I had it open, it was a disaster in their and I would just be doing the work later, starting over from scratch and wasting a lot of time and electricity in the meantime. This is why it bothers me to do things the wrong way. It’s always worse across all vectors over time, and you get the added bonus of kicking yourself because you knew better in the first place.

@requiem Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
